A rare selection of our North American native Canadian Hemlock, ‘Moon Frost’ is a dwarf mounded evergreen conifer to 6 feet tall and wide featuring bright, frosty white pendulous new foliage that matures to a light blue-green, providing a light tone year round in the landscape. The youngest foliage takes on a blush-pink cast during the winter. A finely textured conifer that will light up a partially shaded to shady garden. Prefers some afternoon shade. Its smaller stature makes it a brightly colored focal point for smaller garden spaces and containers. Sure to be a conversation piece.

The Moon Frost Canadian Hemlock is easy to grow in most any moist but well-drained soil of average fertility and part shade. It will handle the morning and evening sun but appreciates some shade or filtered sun during the afternoon hours. Whether growing in the ground or in pots, constantly soggy soil or standing water is problematic, so plant in a well-drained site or pot and avoid overwatering. Provide only enough water to keep the soil damp to moist. Established plants have moderate drought tolerance and will only require an occasional drink during prolonged periods of drought. Maintenance is minimal. No pruning required except to snip a stray branch tip that is spoiling the shape of the plant.
